Socialism, a love-hate relationship

Socialism, over history we have seen it rise and fall, no country has ever done it successfully because simply it cant be done (at least not in this day and age) we have seen it create horrors from human rights violations to genocides. No regular citizen has ever been happy with this system and no country has ever been able to compete in the global economy without capitalism, yet where would we be without it? People say the less socialism the better and that America should completely run on capitalism, while socialism has failed, capitalism has prospered but without socialist principles there would be rapid bankruptcy of American business, millions of American jobs outsourced to third world countries, unfair wage cuts and awful working conditions, the poor left to starve and the sick and handicapped left to suffer, the manufacture of unsafe, dangerous and even deadly products, the destruction of the environment, and our great country will turn into an oligarchy, but let me not get too ahead of myself. First let me say that my name is Cornelius Heathgate, my job, education, age,sex or nationality is not important but what I have to say is important to me and I ask only for your attention and a few minutes of reading. I would like to say that I am not a socialist, but I am not a follower in "complete" capitalism and a balance between the two is needed for a better America for everyone maybe not an equal balance but enough to maintain fairness and success for everyone to benefit.Now we say that we hate socialism, but couldn't the FDA, EPA, and SEC be considered socialism, government control over the economy, there is nothing in capitalism about that. Yet without these there would be nothing stopping corporations from selling citizens harmful and even life threatening products which are made, just look at Yaz and Yazmin. Without EPA there would be no enforcement of pollution and our water and air would be poisoned, (it has in the past) and without the SEC white collared crimes would go rampant, events like Enron would happen all over again. But yet what is stopping corporate corruption is socialism. Yes socialism, the word that we are all scared of and want to get as far away from a possible yet if you look around there is socialism everywhere. Also welfare, medical care, unemployment and social security can all be considered an idea of socialism since it is a distribution of money. One reason welfare is necessary is to support our handicapped or disabled citizens, those who cant fend for themselves. Also it gives people a second chance in life to succeed,those who were  unlucky in life, maybe not even from their own actions. Welfare gives the unlucky citizens a chance at redemption, which is what America stands for, a second chance at life, yet in the past welfare has been so high that people thought it more convenient to rely on welfare and not work. Welfare should be temporary and depreciate over time for the purpose of it to work. No American willing to work should starve and their family shouldn't suffer from their misfortune and our greed. I believe "If a man will not work he shall not eat", but I also believe it is ones responsibility to help those in need if they can and the idea of helping out your fellow man. I will repeat I am not a socialist, I do agree with the ideas of Adam Smith, without capitalism there would be no success, no great improvements, no goals and most importantly no money  but what people don't know about the Scottish philosopher was that was a believer in justice and meaningful work and gave most of his profits to charity. (More than what I can say about the CEOs who feel like a saint after giving less than 10 percent of their multi-million dollar salaries to charity). Socialism at times is needed to have a better society free from too much corporate control, there must be a balance between the power of the corporations and the power of the government. I am not supporting socialism, my parents came from a socialist country and all they talk about was how awful it was so I understand how it cannot work I am only saying socialism keeps fairness and even in this great country it is only here to help us just look around and see how much socialism you can find.
